When should I start wedding dress shopping?

I normally recommend starting your shopping about a year before your wedding date.
Most wedding gowns take between 5-6 months to be delivered(a fact that always surprises brides) and there is no guarantee you are going to find "the one" straight away.
You also need to factor in time for alterations to be completed to ensure a perfect fit.
I also like to build in a couple of months contingency to cover unexpected events. Having traded through the Icelandic Volcanic dust cloud episode and Covid 19 both of which caused disruption to deliveries I would always advise having a couple of months contingency.
Of course if you don't have a year before your Big day there are solutions.
Most designers offer a Rush Cut option which would normally bring delivery down to 10 to 12 weeks.There is normally a charge for this which is generally between £75 to £100.
Some designers also keep stock of their popular designs but often sizes are limited.
The other option is to consider a Ready to Wear wedding dress which you purchase straight from the rail.Most bridal shops will have a selection of these-we normally have over 100 to choose from.
